Dennis Nickerson founded PowerGrab as a frustrated consumer.
"I just wanted something small and simple, not some $30,000 mega project. The roof adds a lot of cost and complexity to the process, so we developed a lightweight product that one person can mount quickly to the wall. It's already assembled and certified when it arrives to the doorstep so local permitting officials know exactly what it is. Our goal is to 'templatize' the product so that solar stops being such a big production."
The company has been supported by a team of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers thanks to financial and technical support from the US Department of Energy, the California Energy Commission, and the National Science Foundation.
