PowerGrab started a few years ago as Portable Solar on a mission to make home solar more accessible. One challenge was to make the installation process simpler because that accounts for over half the cost – the equipment is only one-third.
The second challenge was to offer a modular product that would be affordable at any size. Rooftop solar systems have tripled in size in the last 20 years and most cost from $20,000 to $30,000. Modularity enables $5,000 to $10,000 solar.
These challenges led us to develop a new form factor for solar – an awning – and a new installation method that requires less labor and less time.
This third way of attaching solar can also be used to detach the system. If a storm is coming or it’s time to move, one to two people could quickly remove the system. Renters can finally have their own solar plus other uses emerge where portability has option value.
